What changes the price

The starting numbers above cover a typical small job. Here's what moves a real quote up or down:

Material
PLA is the baseline. PETG is a small bump. Standard resin runs ~1.6× PLA per gram. Specialty filaments aren't in scope yet.
Print time
Print time scales with volume, height, layer thickness, and infill. A tall thin part can take longer than a short chunky one of the same weight.
Post-processing
Support removal, sanding, smoothing, priming, and painting each add labor. We quote post-processing as a line item so you can opt in or out.
Quantity
Small batches (5–20 units) price better per-unit than a single one-off because setup is amortized. Above 20 we'll point you to a print farm.

What's not included

We're a small-batch operation, not a print farm. A few things we're honest about up front:

  • Production runs over 20 units — we'll refer you to a Portland print farm we trust.
  • Engineering-grade materials (nylon, carbon-fiber, TPU) — pending equipment.
  • Large-format prints over ~500mm in any dimension — pending equipment.
  • 3D modeling from scratch (we print files, light fixes included; full design is $75/hr).
  • Food-safe or medical-grade certifications — not within our scope.
  • Same-day turnaround unless the file is print-ready and the queue is empty.

Pricing questions

Why no flat per-gram or per-hour rate?
Two prints of the same weight can take very different amounts of time, material, and post-processing depending on geometry, layer height, supports, and finish. A 50g model with steep overhangs and a mirror finish costs more than a 50g chunky bracket. We quote the job, not the gram — it ends up fairer for both of us than a flat-rate formula.
What changes the price the most?
Print time, material choice, post-processing, and quantity. Resin costs more than PLA per gram and needs wash + cure. Sanding, painting, or precise dimensional tolerance adds labor hours. Small batches of 5–20 units price better per-unit than a single one-off. Send the STL and we'll give you a real number within a day.
Do you offer rush turnaround?
Sometimes. Standard turnaround is 48–72 hours for filament and 3–5 days for resin. Rush (next-day or same-week) is +30–50% depending on queue, and only if the file is print-ready when it arrives. If you need it yesterday, call before you upload — we'll tell you straight if it's possible.
What if my file isn't print-ready?
Most files need at least a quick check — orientation, supports, scaling. Light fixes (a 5-minute repair, support placement) are included. Heavier model work (remeshing, repairing non-manifold geometry, splitting for a smaller printer) is billed at $75/hr with a 1-hour minimum, quoted before we start.
Do you ship, or local pickup only?
Local pickup or drop-off across the Portland metro is the default — no shipping cost, no carrier damage. Mail-order within the US is fine for small parts at actual USPS/UPS cost; we don't mark up shipping. International is case-by-case.
